CHELSEA IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE AGAINST WESTHAM:MATCH REVIEW

On September 21, 2024, Chelsea exhibited a commendable performance with a convincing 3-0 triumph over West Ham in a Premier League fixture at the London Stadium. To a large degree, the victory was facilitated by Nicolas Jackson found the net twice in the first half, to continue Chelsea’s form, before Cole Palmer added a third seconds after the half-time break.

From the onset, West Ham’s defending was open and obeying the back two proved ill-fated. Their defenders – especially centre-backs Mavropanos and Kilman received considerable criticism for failing to monitor Jackson’s movements. Little did he know, West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui nonchalant demeanor betrayed a degree of dissatisfaction with his team response with Chelsea’s counter-attacking style. As if on cue, VAR intervened and overturned a possible penalty for West Ham as Crysencio Summerville sensed a tug from Wesley Fofana in the area and his appeal, although contentious, fell upon unyielding support.

Three consecutive home defeats is a timely concern for West Ham, and were not necessarily that uncharacteristic. Defensively performance drew considerable criticism, with one commentator labeling it, “criminal”.

Outside of Jackson’s performance being deservedly nominated Man of the Match, Chelsea and their fan base will have their player ratings signify a meritorious performance; another player of note was Moisés Caicedo, shining particularly in midfield, and Cole Palmer, to score a thoroughly composed finish and proficiently scoring when Chelsea were particularly wasteful in front of goal earlier in the match.
