Brentford vs Ipswich Town: Premier League Preview, Prediction, Team News and Lineups

Brentford welcome Ipswich Town to the Gtech Community Stadium for a first-ever Premier League meeting this Saturday. The teams will be fully determined to bounce back from disappointments last weekend, as Brentford suffered a 2-1 defeat against Manchester United, while Ipswich Town lost 2-0 to Everton.

Match Preview:

Brentford Recent Form

Brentford’s visit to Old Trafford began with a great promise as Ethan Pinnock headed in from a corner; however, the Bees were unable to maintain the lead. Manchester United responded with a smooth finish from Alejandro Garnacho and a cheeky chipped finish from Rasmus Hojlund in order to complete the comeback.

The defeat marked a fourth consecutive away loss for Brentford in the Premier League this season, leaving them 13th in the standings with 10 points from eight matches. Thomas Frank’s side, though, has been resilient at home – collecting all 10 of their points at the Gtech Community Stadium. The Bees have also scored 14 goals in total on home soil, although they do still remain in search of their first clean sheet of the campaign.

The Struggles of Ipswich Town:

Ipswich Town of head coach Kieran McKenna continues to seek their first win this 2024-2025 Premier League season. The Tractor Boys are just a step away from the relegation zone, sitting 17th with four draws and four losses in eight matches so far. The latest defeat was at the hands of Everton by 2-0, wherein early strikes by Iliman Ndiaye and Michael Keane sealed it.

Despite their struggles, Ipswich has fared slightly better on the road, picking up two points from four away games. Their attacking play, though, has been a major issue this season as Ipswich last in the Premier League both in terms of shots with 75 and shots on target with 23.

Brentford and Ipswich haven’t played each other since April 2019 in the Championship, a match Brentford won 2-0 with strikes from Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins.

Team News

Brentford Team News

Injuries Brentford might also welcome Mathias Jensen back, after he missed the Man United fixture but hopes to be fit for selection this weekend. However, Rico Henry – Knee, Igor Thiago – knee, Gustavo Nunes – back, Aaron Hickey – thigh and Josh Dasilva – knee are still ruled out with injuries.

Head coach Thomas Frank is unlikely to ring many changes in his starting XI, with Yoane Wissa pushing for a start on the left wing ahead of Keane Lewis-Potter.

Ipswich Town Team News

Ipswich defender Axel Tuanzebe will miss several months after a weird washing-up injury that almost saw him lose his thumb. The Tractor Boys also have a host of other players out with injuries: Jacob Greaves is missing due to a hamstring issue; Ben Johnson has an unspecified one; Massimo Luongo and Janoi Donacien are out with ankle problems. Jens Cajuste may be back in the frame after a knee injury, while Ali Al Hamadi is also pushing for a return after a groin problem.

Kieran McKenna will most probably keep the majority of his team that took to the pitch against Everton, although Wes Burns could make way for Sammie Szmodics because of his failure to find his man in front of Ndiaye.

Predicted Lineups:

Brentford possible starting lineup:
Flekken; Van den Berg, Collins, Pinnock, Ajer; Damsgaard, Janelt, Norgaard; Mbeumo, Schade, Wissa

Ipswich Town possible starting lineup:
Muric; O’Shea, Woolfenden, Burgess, Davis; Phillips, Morsy; Szmodics, Hutchinson, Clarke; Delap

Prediction:

While Brentford have been a much stronger side at home, Ipswich Town’s struggles in front of goal have continued to hamper their campaign. Given the Bees’ remarkable attacking form at the Gtech Community Stadium, expectations point towards them securing all three points.

Prediction: Brentford 2-0 Ipswich Town
